Research: Music Magazines
The first music magazine has very old pictures on it in black and white portraying that it is promoting the old music. it contains very small writing giving some information on the artists and title. The next magazine contains an image of a group of teenage boys dressed site hippy. This suggests the it could be promoting indie pop bands. It has various different smaller pictures on it of more boy bands with a small title for each telling the reader whats on. The next magazine shows a full page of a middle aged man, this gives off the impression that the music is metal due to the textual content. However, on the front page it also talks about grime which is more of an urban type of music so therefore this magazine includes metal and grime artists. The magazine renovator has a picture of a man with eyeliner and black makeup and clothes on, this suggests that this magazine contains heavy metal music due to the vigorous background as well. The magazine mixmag shows young boys on the front in hats and hoodies, this portrays that it is rap and urban music. It also states that it features dance artists in it also. The magazine I believe my music video fits into best is mixmag, this is because it involves dance music and hip hop. However, I believe that my music video would fit better into an acoustic magazine due to the genre that I have picked.

This magazine promotes jazz music from the pictures used on the magazine, the colouring of the magazine suggests that its old due to no colour on the pictures or the newspaper. The text used on the magazine is quite and old style of text and the pictures used portray a man that is wearing the typical jazz wear suggesting that it is promoting jazz music.
This magazine shows 3 men that are dressed in a similar way, their look is very casual. This suggests that they produce indie music as it states that they are music artists. The checkered shirt that one man is wearing is the typical clothing that an indie would wear. The magazine is very colourful which suggests that it links in with the indie theme.
This magazine is very plain with only dull colours, this suggests that it is related to indie or rock music from the theme presented from the images on the magazine. The artist shown on the front of the magazine is Liam from a well know band. The artists names feature on the magazine are popular indie artists such as the Kings Of Leon.
This magazine features a large image in the centre of the front cover, its very colourful and has a very popular indie artist featured, David Bowie. The background and the title are made up of very vibrant colours which draws attention to the magazine.
This magazine suggests that the magazine is based on rock music due to the image of the male with makeup such as black eyeliner and the red lipstick. This is a typical look for a rock member implying that this particular magazine is based on rock music. The colours are quite bright but however dull at the same time, the colours look worn out. For example, the background has worn out colours with chips in suggesting that it is old and worn out.
This magazine has a dark background with a colourful image onto of it, this grabs the attention of the reader as it is very eye-catching. The name of the magazine illustrates that this magazine is based upon a music genre such as hip hop or rap. The theme featured on the front cover is very bold in order to grab he readers attention.
This magazine features the picture of a male holding a computer wearing casual clothes giving us the indication of the magazine featuring country music due to the props and clothing used in the image. The font used is very bold and clear which makes it easy for the reader to read.
Research of existing magazine ads:
This is the only magazine that I could find on my particular artist. This is an existing magazine ad of Calum Scott, the colours used are very cool and toned down, this reflects the type of music that he produces. This magazine ad is very heavily focused on Calum Scotts image as it features a large image of his face from a side on view. The text featured on this ad is very bold and clear, it is promoting a gig that is taking place at an address posted on this ad including the date and the website where tickets can be purchased.
This is another magazine ad that i have found from a similar artists that produces similar music which is calming and quite slow in ways. This magazine ad also has a large picture of the artist in the middle of the ad with vibrant colours to catch the readers eye. It states where the album can be brought, when its out, the artists name and other details about the album and artists below.
This magazine ad features a dull image representing the type of music featured on the album being promoted. The image is black and whit giving it a dull effect and the text used is displayed onto of a black box. This makes the writing very clear to read and it is also very bold. It features the record label logo, the artists name and the album name however not much else such as a barcode or the record producer.
Research: Existing
In order to give me an indication of what music magazines feature, I have completed this table indicating what 5 different magazines have one them. All of them stated their artists name and their egos. All of the magazines had a barcode on them for when they are being purchased in a shop. Tour dates weren't very popular on music magazine ads unless they were promoting a tour. There wasn't many reviews on the magazine ads, this may be due to it being a short and snappy way of getting attention and recognition for the artist and album.
Planning: ideas
This is our first idea for our music magazine ad. From my previous research I have found out that most magazine ads have a barcode, the artists name, the album name and the date that the album is out on. I have also discovered that it is popular for the artists to feature in a large picture in the background on in the centre of the ad. This draws attention to what the ad is about and which artists album is being released. I have come up with the idea that the name of the album will be on a square black box to make the text stand out more to the audience. The colour scheme I have put with this design are very calm and cool. I think that the colours light grey and blue would best go with Calum Scott music magazine ad as it matches the music that h produces and it makes the picture of him stand out.
This is our second idea for our music magazine ad, the picture of our artist will feature at the side, it will be a side view picture that is very detailed and the background colours, again, will be cool toned. This, again, is to match the type of music Calum Scott produces. This ad has a barcode, the album title, a picture of the artist, the release date of the album and the artists name. I have put this on my design as from my previous research it shows that these features are particularly popular. The artists name will be in bold writing that is whit with a black outline. However, if this doesn't stand out or look professional when being created then the colours may have to be adjusted.
Final Idea
Overall, I believe that the first design is the most suitable for our music magazine ad, I believe this because in the background will be a large picture of our artists with his name over the top of the picture. I believe these colours also match the type of music our artists produces. The text being in the centre will catch the readers eye which makes stand out which is what we want. I believe that this is most professional design that I have created. The name of the album is in a black box to make it stand out more so therefore, again, I believe this is the best design. We will create our music magazine ad using photoshop to get the best possible results among it look professional and clean.
This is the picture that we have decided to use for our music magazine ad, it is a picture that clearly views the artist looking sad and down to represent the newly related single that is featured on the album 'Dancing On My Own'.
This is a screenshot of when we were playing around with the texts that are going to be featured on the ad, we wanted fonts that stood out and were bold however not too old that it made our work look clustered. We changed our plan from the original decided plan as we believed that all of the text looked better at the top of the page. This made the important information stand out more and catch the readers eye.
We then added more important context that needed to be featured on our Music Magazine Ad such as what the album was called, when it was being released and what new single features on it. We also thought it would be a good idea to feature a quote from a well-known and trusted music magazine. On the bottom, we also decided to add in the website of the artist in order to give the reader extra information on him. This website features merchandise that fans may want to purchase so therefore this ad is a good way of promoting this.
Final Design
This is our final design for our music magazine ad, we believe that this is the most professional and informative design. The fonts we have used make the important text stand out making sure that it is clear when the album is coming out, what the album is called and who the artist is. It also features a positive quote on the album from a well-trusted magazine, Q. The picture feature on the centre of the ad is also linked in with a shot within our music video. This represents what the song is about and what kind of effect the topic has on the artist. This final design is very different to our decided plan. When we played around with the text and other images, we decided that the text looked better at the top of the page with other text that wasn't so important at the bottom of the page. The text we used for the title of the album and artist is bold however not too bold that it takes away the main focus on the image of the artist.
We have shown this to our specific target audience and they believed that this would catch their eye if they were to be going through a magazine. We received positive feedback from our target audience. They said that the colours of the background used were very appealing to them, they believed the it looked very professional with the layout we have decided to use with the text getting smaller at the top of the page.
